Everyone deserves a good place to stay if traveling to an unfamiliar territory. If you are visiting General Santos City either for business or as a jump-off point to nearby towns, Microtel GenSan is a great place to stay.
Ideal Location
Tucked inside the posh Valley High (a complex of restaurants) along Pan Philippine Highway, this clean-looking hotel is easy to find and is just under 30 minutes from General Santos City Airport. Shuttle can be arranged but the hotel is also accessible by public transportation.
The hotel is located at the heart of General Santos City or GenSan for short – the main gateway to Mindanao’s SOCCSKSARGEN region. It is just an hour away from the white sand beaches and ancestral homes of Glan, Saranggani, two hours away from the serene town of Lake Sebu and its colorful people, the T’boli tribe and just a three-hour bus ride away from Davao City. If you are a shopping addict, malls are just either walking distance or one-trike ride away from the hotel.
Lovely Rooms and Functional Amenities
Suite Rooms have a kitchenette (mini-fridge, boiler, microwave), complimentary tea and bottled water and has a separate receiving area.
The bathrooms are spacious enough and are well-lit. It comes with a hairdryer (which girls would surely find useful), hot and cold shower and free toiletries (tissue, soap, shampoo and toothbrush/toothpaste set). Towels are also provided. The hotel is also properly equipped for physically-challenged guests. Wheelchair-accessible rooms are available and special arrangements can be made – just contact the management before your stay.
Microtel GenSan is not only for leisure travelers but is also a good venue for holding small business meetings and gatherings. Their boardroom, which can hold about 10-15 people, are in the process of being upgraded.
Their two functions halls, which are located on the second floor, can also be turned into one big auditorium.
Tummy-filling Breakfast
The first meal of the day is the most important, so it has been said. Me and my friend Mai was actually looking forward to tasting what the hotel has to offer.
Breakfast is complimentary, fresh, and best of all, served early by Microtel GenSan’s partner establishment. The staff were polite and attentive. If you need an early booster, you can have your first meal of the day at 6 AM or if you had a late night out, breakfast is served until 10 AM.
The hotel is actually planning to have a restaurant in the next few months which would be a definite plus. As of this writing, wide food choices can be found nearby. Guests can choose among fast food chains, upscale cafes and local eateries.

As a mermaid, I actually was looking forward to having a quick dip in the cool waters of a swimming pool but that has to wait since the hotel will still have to build one soon. We felt like VIP guests when we chose to stay here. Our littlest needs were well-attended to. Our entire hotel experience was very smooth from the moment we arrived at the airport until we departed for our next destination.
If you are planning to visit General Santos City, do consider staying at Microtel Gensan. It is the better choice.
