My first venture in Ilocandia was back in April of this year when I visited the UNESCO Heritage Site of Vigan City. Little did I know that I would step foot on its vast lands again just after a few months.
I am glad to share two of Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur’s treasures: Our Lady of the Assumption Church or more known as Sta. Maria Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Pinsal Falls, a lovely waterfall tucked in the hills of Brgy. Baballasioan.

My friend Hazel and I spent a good chunk of our time haggling with the many tricycle drivers offering different prices. Some almost agreed to our price of P 150 while others thought they could fool us with a staggering P 400. We passed by the market and started to walk since we were not able to reach any amicable settlement.

But an angel came down from heaven as Brgy. Councilor Cabantac’s motor trike passed by and offered us a free ride. We were gleefully shouting and thanked him profusely as our efforts were paid off! Mr. Cabantac even let us use their home to relieve ourselves before ushering us to the falls.

A dip in the falls was not possible for the mermaid in me as the waters were murky. It rained the night before. I am sure that taking a dip here would be so much better if the waters are clear and free-flowing.

How To Get Here
– From Manila, ride any bus bound for Vigan City. Fare approximately at Php 550.
– Ride a tricycle going to the Church. Fare approximately P 10 per person from the national highway or depending on your haggling skills.
– For Pinsal Falls, take a trike at about P 40 each per person from the public market or depending on your haggling skills.
