I’m a sucker for romantic endings, weddings, red roses and more so for a real life fairy tale ending. And Chiang Rai’s Wat Rong Khun seemed a good enough place for a marriage proposal.<3
Better known to foreign tourists as White Temple, it is actually an art exhibit disguising as a temple. If I did not know that it was actually a museum of sorts, I would have been definitely freaked out from all the creepy stuff. From lifelike head busts to numerous palms with eyes, creepy was an understatement. Perhaps the owner had some leaning to the not-so-normal stuff? Which, I may say, I found truly interesting.
The structure was undergoing renovations when we visited. Nevertheless, I can still see its grandness and elegance even if some part of the structures were surrounded with scaffolding. Me and my friends took time admiring the intricacies on display and perhaps wondered why such a place would be of interest to people. Well my guess is as good as yours. Humans are naturally curious.
The whole complex structure was drowning in white so the interior of the main building was a colorful welcome to my eyes! There sat a lifelife monk which appeared to be meditating. It required a second glance from me since it looked very real!
After exploring the temple grounds, Jherson rounded us up and requested us to proceed to the front yard. He told us to have some ‘couple shots’. Haha! We all knew what will happen next so we quickly obliged. Claire and Rem went first then Billy and I. But Billy and I aren’t a romantic couple just so you know.
That was the time we all played accomplice in Jherson’s plan to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Lana. The notice came in a little late in my annual travel planning so I was hesitant at first to say yes. But thanking God for giving me selfless friends, Claire and Jherson agreed to lend me some so I can join them in the Land of Smiles. I am glad I did! How can I not be a part of this wonderful event?
Following the weeks prior to our departure, our excitement was evident in our chat room. Of course, Lana was not included in that secret GC, lol (sorry Lana, pag di kami sumunod baka pagalitan kami ni Mayor π)!
Though I would’ve preferred a more elaborate setting, a marriage proposal from the one you love is all that matters. A moment like this, may the setting be simple or grand, is one for the books, whatever it is. I am truly happy for both my friends for at least there will now be two less lonely people in the world. <3 π
We were all very happy at the success of our plans. I am now looking forward to next year! I hope I will walk down the aisle as a bridesmaid (lol, but that is Lana’s decision, not mine) with a good-looking partner beside me, haha.
Well, a single girl can freely dream. Right? π
